Blizzard has released a new report on Doomfist’s current situation in the Overwatch universe. Hinting new details about the current Doomfist who is expected to be the next playable Overwatch Hero. The Times of Numbani revealed that the Talon organization targeted the maximum security prison holding the infamous villain: “Akande Ogundimu, better known as Doomfist.”

“It began in the early hours of the morning, when an unidentified aircraft approached the facility. Security initially reported that the craft had no passengers on board, based on radar scans. The craft passed through the range of the installation’s defence systems without incident, leading some to believe that Talon has moles within Helix.
Video surveillance from within the compound revealed a black shadowy figure emerging from the craft and descending upon the prison grounds. The unidentified assailant easily overcame the Helix security agents, leaving over a dozen dead.
Medical records of the casualties reveal injuries and cellular degeneration matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper, all but confirming the incursion as a Talon attack.”
History of Doomfist
The persona of Doomfist has always been a part of the Overwatch universe since the release of the cinematic trailer. Doomfist has never been one person, but a successor passed down from person to person. The first Doomfist was the “The Savior” who known as a hero of Numbani. The second was “The Scourge” a villain. The third and current Doomfist referred to as the “The Successor”.
It all began when Talon agents Reaper and Widowmaker attempt to retrieve Doomfist’s gauntlet from the Overwatch Museum. Their plans are foiled by Tracer and Winston with the help of Brian, driving the Talon operatives away.
Sometime later, Talon attempted to free Doomfist and succeeded. Presumably, Reaper entered the Helix security installation that was holding Doomfist. As a result, Reaper killed over a dozen guards to free the current Doomfist, Akande Oguindimu. Ultimately releasing Doomfist on the loose in the Overwatch universe. It is unknown if Talon took anything else from the Helix facility or if their sole objective was just to free the infamous Doomfist.
As a consequence of Doomfist gaining his freedom. Doomfist traveled to Numbani to recover his gauntlet. The gauntlet moved to Numbani so it could be on display in the Heritage Museum based in Numbani. Consequently, Doomfist met a team of new OR15 defense robots inside Adawe International Terminal of the Numbani airport. Still, Doomfist defeated all of the robots and recovered his gauntlet.
Potential abilities of Doomfist
Doomfist’s primary weapon is his gauntlet combined with his immense strength. No doubt Doomfist will be a close combat hero utilizing his fists for melee attacks. On the other hand, it is unknown if Doomfist will be a Tank or DPS hero.
However, if he is a Tank, Doomfist will be a juggernaut with a large health pool who deals a significant amount of damage. At the same time having a charge ability to allow him to get up close and personal with enemies. Without any defensive cooldowns, he will rely on other tanks to support him as he deals damage.
Furthermore, if Doomfist is a DPS hero, Doomfist will have a 250 health pool. As a consequence for Doomfist being a melee only hero. I would think Doomfist would have an engage ability similar to Genji’s Swift Strike. This would allow Doomfist to engage with the enemy team quickly, in melee range. As a consequence of him being a melee only hero, he would also have a getaway mechanic or sustainability while he is fighting.
Doomfist could have his dash or charge reset when he gets a kill. On the other hand, his sustainability could be a passive ability such as Reaper’s life steal when he deals damage, or it could be something similar to Soldier 76’s biotic healing field.
